East Nashville news: Nikki Lane + Spiritualized, Eastland Cafe + crawfish, more

Nikki Lane

Lots of food, lots of celebration, lots of celebration with food. And Music.

On to the latest Stuff We Heard:

  • Nikki Lane hits the road with Spiritualized

East Nashville-based singer-songwriter and High Class Hillbilly vintage maven Nikki Lane just scored a big, big tour opening for the mighty Spiritualized from coast to coast in May.

On that jaunt, she’ll be taking the stage at some of our fine country’s finest large clubs and theaters, including D.C.’s 9:30 and San Francisco’s Fillmore. Closest to us? Atlanta, at the Variety Playhouse on May 13.

Ahead of that run, Lane does make a hometown showing at Exit/In on April 28, alongside The Apache Relay and Colorfeels. That show kicks off at 9 p.m., and she’s second. Tix: $10.

a stage

Today’s roundup leans heavy on music — music and fashion, music and dancing, music and stages (like that jumbled mess pictured up above), music and music… Which probably makes it as good a time as any to say that March may be a little more quiet — though not a lot more, we hope — on ENWL.

When I’m not scribbling here or elsewhere, I’m generally hitting things with sticks for a band called The Mynabirds. We have an album out June 5 via Saddle Creek, and I’m skipping East Nashville imminently to go wander around the country some through the end of March. I’ll still be updating regularly, just maybe a hair more sporadically. I’m lining up some guest voices to say hello while I’m gone. So, there’s all that.

Without further yammering, the latest Stuff We Heard:

  • Nikki Lane hits Daytrotter

Nikki Lane DaytrotterMulti-talented Eastsider Nikki Lane is the latest local to get the live-tracks treatment from well-loved online music hub Daytrotter.

Singer, songwriter and High Class Hillbilly-er Lane performed a mix of songs from her excellent 2011 LP Walk of Shame, including the title track and “Gone Gone Gone.”

East Nashville (half) year in review

Nathaniel Allen mural

We launched this site in August, and in just a few months, our little site’s grown into… a little site with some fine and supportive Facebook/Twitter friends.

Over those months, we’ve tried to keep tabs on the comings and goings and good news and bad news in the neighborhood, sometimes successfully, always enthusiastically. As the year winds down, we figured we’d take a quick look back at some of the more eventful moments from the back half of 2011. (We realize it’s a brief span, but in Internet time, five months is, like, Geocities old?)

Take a look below.

East Nashville news: Wild Cow buffet, No. 308 Drink-in Movies, Elizabeth Cook, more

Wild Cow

Very brief roundup of Stuff We Heard today — plans for tonight, potential plans for future Mondays, potential East Nashville-related music plans for Friday.

  • Wild Cow hosts holiday buffet/benefit

Free tonight? Allow us to direct you to a buffet-slash-benefit here in the neighborhood.

Sure, buffet can be an ugly word — after Phoebe (enjoy that dated TV reference), it tends to make us think of waterlogged rubber chicken, troughs of sawdust-dry rice, rolls you could brick a firepit out of. But in the hands of Eastside vegetarian stop The Wild Cow, it looks like it’ll be a very different thing.
